Fault Tree Analysis and Event Tree Analysis
are versatile methods for dealing with probabilistic risk,
reliability and availability issues. Although fault tree analysis
was developed in the 1960s for hardware systems, it is an
adaptable logic-based technique that has been applied to combined
hardware and software systems. SoHaR was a pioneer in the
application of fault trees to software. We have since applied
the technique to combined hardware and software systems in
military command and control systems, air traffic control
systems, and flight critical digital aircraft systems.
