- Complexity Metrics for Avionics Software: SoHaR developed new metrics specifically
tailored for assessing the complexity, reliability, and maintainability of Ada software
for real time avionics software. A software tool implemented in Ada was developed
to parse existing Ada source code and derive the metrics, and the enhanced predictive
capability of these metrics was established using software and failure reports from
a large existing real time Ada software project.
- Avionics Software Performability Analysis: Under contract to the Wright Avionics
Laboratory SoHaR developed a performability model for avionics software. The model
is intended to aid in trade-offs between software and computer system performance
and dependability by identifying how each of these attributes affects the worth
of the system perceived by the user.
- Flight Critical Digital Systems: Under contract to the U.S. Air Force Aeronautical
Systems Division (ASD), SoHaR compiled a handbook of the best available measures
to reduce failure consequences and improve reliability of flight critical computers
in the airframe, payload, and propulsion systems.
- Reliability Test Facility: SoHaR was selected to develop requirements for a national
reliability test facility used for guidance and navigation systems for missiles
and aircraft at Holloman AFB.
- Validation of Digital Systems in Avionics and Flight Control Applications: SoHaR
was selected by the FAA to provide major revisions to a handbook for the validation
of digital avionics, flight, and engine control systems.
- Fault Tolerant Software for Avionics and Flight Control Applications: In a separate
contract, SoHaR prepared a tutorial and written input to a handbook for validation
of critical systems for the Federal Aviation Administration's Technical Center in
Atlantic City, NJ.
- Fault Tolerant Aircraft Electric Power Management: As a consultant to a major control
systems manufacturer, SoHaR developed fault tolerance provisions for the management
of electric power on aircraft and helicopters. The system provides for automatic
load shedding and current limiting.
- Reliability Analysis of Self-Repairing Flight Control Systems: SoHaR supported AFWAL/FIGL
at Wright Patterson AFB in evaluating reliability and related attributes of flight
control systems which incorporate the capability to compensate for failures in actuators,
control surfaces, etc., by reconfiguring the remaining controls or by changes in
gain and current limiting.
- Fault Tolerant Software Development for Digital Aircraft Control Systems: SoHaR
was the subcontractor for fault tolerant software on two fault tolerant flight control
computers developed under the sponsorship of the NASA Langley Research Center: the
Fault Tolerant Multiprocessor (FTMP) and the Software Implemented Fault Tolerant
system (SIFT).
