SoHaR’s prognostics program focuses on electronic systems and in particular on
methods that require minimal design changes and cost. The application of
prognostics to electronic systems has long been problematic because of the
relatively low failure rates of individual components and parts and the
difficulty of integrating sensors into very small scale designs. Redundancy was
often a better, although by far not ideal, solution to high dependability
requirements. SoHaR has identified several prognostic methods that are based on
trending of external measurements such as power dissipation or digital errors
that allow for a low cost and low weight implementation of prognostics to
critical systems such as power supplies and digital boards. For additional
